About Ms. Kerr
Writer. Teacher. Dog Mom. Board Game Enthusiast.
In case you haven't noticed, I'm a writer. Mostly creative nonfiction, news articles, and poetry, although sometimes I play around with fiction. And since reading makes for a better writer, I love to read! Poetry, fiction, nonfiction, magazines, newspapers, fortune cookies, and of course, student work! Reading my students' writing is one of my favorite parts of teaching.
Aside from reading and writing, I'm into traveling, running and hiking, music festivals, and spending time with my family: my mom, my younger brother, Tristan, my boyfriend, Ben, and my Shih Tzu, Jasper.
I graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in Rhetoric and Writing Studies with a minor in journalism. At WMU, I took several professional writing, creative writing, and journalism courses.
My passion for writing began when I was a little girl. I wrote, illustrated, and manufactured hundreds of "books," which were really just pieces of colored construction paper stapled together. But the drive was there. I've wanted to be a writer since I was a young child, and the reason I pursued this dream in college was because of several inspiring, amazing, hardworking teachers I had. I am so excited about teaching English because I want to reach students the way my teachers reached me. I want to show my students what they can do.
