Hello, parents!

Thank you for visiting my website, because that means you are active in your student's education, and that is awesome! Without your unconditional support, your child would not be as wonderful as they are in my classroom (and they are absolutely wonderful in my classroom!). I am a strong proponent of parent-student-teacher collaboration, so if you have any concerns, questions, or ideas about your child's education, please get in touch with me! I look forward to hearing from you. Below you will find my teaching philosophy, classroom updates, how to help students with homework, and resources to help you and your child succeed.

My Teaching Philosophy

First and foremost, I believe in every student. I believe each child that enters my classroom has something important to offer to the world around them, whether it is compassion, comedic relief, knowledge about sports or science or numbers. I am dedicated to discovering what makes each student come alive and what helps each student learn. And I will use what I discover about each student to teach them how to read and write.

I prefer to allow a healthy amount of autonomy in my classroom. Students can write about whatever topic they choose (within reason, of course) and we will work from there. Students are simply not as engaged with topics they aren't interested in, and we shouldn't expect them to be. However, I have found that when a student is reading or writing about something that creates a spark for them, they become engaged, interested, and they learn.

I have also vowed to make my classroom and my lessons as accessible to all students as possible. Each student learns in a unique way, and I am completely open to teaching in new, different ways so not one student feels lost in my classroom.

Lastly, everything I teach my students has, or will have, a purpose in their lives. Everything they learn in my classroom will be of importance to them. Whether it's life skills, communication skills, writing skills, or empathy, it has a purpose in your child's life.
